چکیده
A long-held but untested hydroclimatic model maintains that, in the arid southern Great Basin, U.S.A., hydrographically isolated watersheds held no late Quaternary paleolakes, even during pluvial periods. We test this at Ivanpah Dry Lake, which has a watershed lying wholly within mountains of Mojave Desert, and obvious ancient shorelines. Remote imagery was used to identify relict geomorphic features attributable wave action high-lake stands, excavations different parts basin margin revealed beach lacustrine sedimentary sequences, some truncated by playa surfaces, most >2.5 m above current playa. In exposed sediment grades upward near-shore muds, capped alluvium Cima Wash Delta-Fan. Time-dependent changes carbon isotope ratios indicate that saltscrub (Atriplex polycarpa), desert vegetation surrounding dry lake today, did not become dominant until after 5.4 cal ka. comparison Paleolake Ivanpah’s initial radiocarbon chronology regional proxies demonstrates its potential inform on changing sources moisture contributing events. This study shows only lakes occurred also margins these basins are so geomorphically active as entirely obscure evidence their occurrence. However, process often buries protects, rather than obliterates, stratigraphic for past stands. Chronology of latest Pleistocene lake-level fluctuations in the pluvial Lake Chewaucan basin, Oregon, USA
New accelerator mass spectrometer radiocarbon ages from gastropods in shore deposits within the pluvial Lake Chewaucan basin, combined with stratigraphical and geomorphological evidence, identify an abrupt rise and fall of lake level at ca. 12 14C ka. The lake-level high is coeval with lake-level lows in the well-dated records of palaeolakes Bonneville and Lahontan, and with a period of relativ...

In order for the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to comply with the Government Performance and Results Act (GPRA), and better meet the needs of the public; a visitor satisfaction survey was conducted at 23 BLM recreation sites in 11 states during fiscal year 2008 (FY08). The survey was developed to measure each site's performance related to BLM GPRA Goal 3.1 Provide for a quality recreation exp...

Estimates of past lake-water salinity from fossil diatom assemblages were used to infer past climatic conditions at Moon Lake, a climatically sensitive site in the northern Great Plains. A good correspondence between diatom-inferred salinity and historical records of mean annual precipitation minus evapotranspiration (P ET) strongly suggests that the sedimentary record from Moon Lake can be use...

Taking into account the importance of Lake Sevan and Lake Sevan basin’s rivers for Armenian economy, the main goals of our investigations were the documentation of water quality and the biodiversity of invertebrates developed in Lake Sevan basin’s rivers and selected tributaries. Moderately satisfied ecological condition for the biodiversity of Lake Sevan basin’s rivers has been established, an...
